Simplicity in Interior Design

After the Summit was over on the 30th, my husband, Harry and I were ready to relax on Friday evening.  It was also his birthday (Halloween), so we left the house early before the trick-or-treaters arrived.

We went to a quaint restaurant, Tables, in a residential neighborhood close to one of my old offices.  The building itself was probably built in the 40s, and the interior is spare, but charming. 

The floors are concrete and the decor consists of distressed doors with chipping paint leaned against the walls, distressed drop leaf tables and unmatched chairs in a variety of colors.  The lights are jelly jar sconces on dimmers, and they adorn the tables iwth jelly jar vases with simple flowers. 

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming as are the waiters and owners.  The simple and creative materials are a great backdrop for the warm and friendly service and complex flavors of the dishes.  We ended dinner with a peach/blueberry pie baked by our rail-thin waiter, John.  He comes in every day and creates the "John's Pie"of the day.

If you are planning a restaurant interior, these simple recycled products are a great way to create a great ambiance.  

A final thought, it was appropriate that the real charm of the restaurant is the staff that is friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable and nice.  it reminds me of Bob Burg of The Go Giver.
