Got Balance?
I know that a lot of business owners struggle with creating and keeping balance in their life. I am always giving Gail a hard time about this very topic. Whenever she is planning a trip out of town, I encourage her to add a day to relax and not think about the business.
I am constantly trying to create balance in my life. Whether it is business or family, I thurst for it. I have to admit it isn't always easy, but if I keep in mind the things in life that are truly important to me, it really helps me to be a balance-driven individual.
My husband is a fireman and works 24 hour shifts at the fire house. Instead of complaining about his schedule, I have found that his schedule actually makes me more balanced and more productive. I try to use that 24 hours for me. Those are the days that I can come in early or stay late at work if I need to get ahead or make a deadline. Actually, I have time to catch up or get ahead in general. Then, the days that he is off we have more time to spend together and with our friends and family.

Now, I know not everyone is married to a fireman, but the point is, you can create balance in your life and if you do, you will actually be more productive. By identifying what is important to you and spending your time accordingly, you will be amazed how much more you will get done and have fun doing it.
OK, so now that you are jazzed and ready to start living a more balanced life, I have to tell you that I am a Libra. I am definitely not in to all of the astrological signs, but I do know that the Libra is represented by a set of scales because they are continually seeking balance in themselves and their life. Maybe you should try being a Libra for a day; you would be amazed how balance will change your life.

Balance
Erin, I liked your post and know that self employed owners work long hours and often feel compelled to 'keep working' and delay fun and relaxation. Sometimes the universe gives us a nudge and that opportunity for balance arrives.
That's how it worked for me after a nasty auto accident and whiplash became part of my life. Insurance provided a few months of relief with PT but upon the suggeston of the PT I started a yoga practice. It had been many years since I took classes. After a few months I could turn my head without pain and I found I was sleeping and feeling better in many ways.
So now I generally go to a class 3-4x a week. That time is MY time. I can let go of all the business or personal issues which interrupt my thoughts and focus on that 75 minutes with my yoga practice and personal meditation.
